Get Emotional

Allow yourself to get emotional when engaging with information. If you’ve ever wondered why certain people, events, or experiences are forgettable, it’s often because they didn’t evoke strong emotions.

We tend to remember things more effectively when they elicit strong feelings, whether it’s anger, happiness, sadness, or anxiety. So, try to connect the material you’re learning with an emotional response when possible. Information that is emotionally relevant is more likely to be encoded and retained.

For example, if you’re learning about historical events, try to imagine the emotions people felt during those times. If it’s a scientific concept, consider the excitement or curiosity that discovery may have sparked. Associating facts with emotional experiences makes them more memorable.
