How to Learn New Things
Action

Your Learning Mode

Identify ways to acquire the new topic/language in small, regular slots of time – through reading, learning one-to-one, or in a group.

Some skills such as reading about a topic will be practised more efficiently in self-paced learning, other skills such as learning to converse in another language is more effective in one-to-one sessions. Plus there are individual preferences. Decide on the best timing and setting, with a few test runs if necessary.

  1. Identify your preferred method for acquiring a new topic or language in brief, consistent time slots – whether through independent reading, one-on-one conversations, or group learning.
  2. Tailor the strategy to the specific skill – Self-paced learning suits activities like reading, while one-to-one sessions enhance language conversational skills. Take into account your individual preferences as well.
  3. Give it a go. Test run your learning mode – Set the ideal timing and setting. Test and refine as you go along.
